HRT Patient Information

This information is for you to read and keep in relation to your prescription for HRT.

HRT is used to treat symptoms of the peri-menopause/menopause. Symptoms can vary and include hot flushes, sweats, mood swings and sleep changes alongside vaginal symptoms.

There are different types of HRT and the type used depends on your past medical history, family history and personal choice.

For more information on the different types of HRT and also information on alternative forms of treatment and self help measure please see:

Risks and Benefits of HRT

When deciding to use HRT it is important to consider the benefits and risk of HRT. You can discuss your own history with the doctor but more information can also be found at:

Monitoring of HRT

Before you start HRT we ask that you speak to a GP to decide if HRT is suitable and which type would best be suited to you depending on your history and symptoms.

We also ask that you see our Practice Nurse for BP, height and weight check and to check all your screening tests are up to date.

We then ask that you return after 3 months of taking HRT for a Blood Pressure check.

If your medication is working well for you we ask that you have a Nurse appointment annually to check your Blood Pressure and that your screening tests are up to date. You can then have an appointment which can be in person or on the telephone to review your HRT with a GP to ensure it is still the correct type for you.

Please remember that if you have any concerns about your HRT in between appointments you can always make an appointment to speak to the Practice Nurse or GP.
